🎵 Spotify to Raise Premium Subscription Prices Globally from September, Including Middle East

LONDON — August 1, 2025:
Spotify announced Monday it will increase prices for its Premium Individual subscription plan across multiple global regions — including the Middle East, South Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific — starting September 2025.

The monthly rate will rise from €10.99 to €11.99 ($13.86), the company confirmed in a statement, as part of a broader strategy to boost profit margins amid growing operating costs.

“Subscribers will receive emails detailing the price change over the next month,” Spotify said.

📈 Spotify Shares Surge, Profit Strategy on Track

Following the announcement, Spotify’s shares jumped nearly 8%, contributing to a 40% gain year-to-date. The price hike is seen as a continuation of Spotify's monetization strategy that helped the company post its first annual profit in 2024.

Despite posting a second-quarter loss due to higher taxes on employee compensation, Spotify’s monthly active users and premium subscribers both increased, suggesting robust demand for its offerings even as prices climb.

🎙️ Video Expansion and Podcast Monetization Driving Growth

Spotify is also doubling down on video content, fueled by the Spotify Partner Program, which allows podcasters and content creators to monetize their shows and upload video episodes.

“A growing number of creators are joining the Spotify Partner Program, resulting in a significant increase in video content on the platform,” CEO Daniel Ek told Reuters.

This initiative aims to compete with YouTube and TikTok, offering creators tools to monetize directly within the Spotify ecosystem.

📱 Regulatory Wins Boost Visibility and Revenue Potential

Spotify is benefiting from a recent US legal ruling that bars Apple from charging commission on off-app purchases. As a result, Spotify’s app in the US can now display subscription prices and include external payment links, offering users more transparent pricing and an easier subscription flow.

“We’ve seen a very positive uptick in the US,” Ek said, noting that similar rules in Europe and the UK could further benefit Spotify and other app developers.
