Cameron Young Clinches First PGA Tour Win at Wyndham Championship, Becomes 1,000th Winner in Tour History

Plus: Japanese Dominance in Women’s Golf, Global Tournament Highlights

GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA — AUGUST 2025
Cameron Young finally ended his drought on the PGA Tour with a commanding victory at the Wyndham Championship, firing a 2-under 68 to finish at 22-under 258, tying the tournament scoring record and winning by six shots.

The win marks Young's first PGA Tour title after seven runner-up finishes, and it makes him the 1,000th recognized winner on the PGA Tour — a milestone that dates all the way back to Willie Park's win at the 1860 British Open.

🏆 Young Dominates Field with Birdie Blitz

Young seized control early with five consecutive birdies, building a nine-shot cushion. Although two late bogeys cost him a shot at breaking the tournament scoring record, he matched the record held by J.T. Poston (2019) and Henrik Stenson (2017).

"It’s been a long time coming," Young said after his win. "It feels even better to do it this way — wire-to-wire with total control."

💰 Runner-Up and FedEx Cup Implications

  • Mac Meissner finished second after a final-round 66, earning $893,800 and moving to No. 86 in the FedEx Cup.

  • Chris Kirk climbed into the top 70 with a T-5 finish and will advance to the FedEx Cup playoffs.

  • Byeong Hun An (missed cut) fell out of the top 70.

  • Matti Schmid secured the final 70th spot after birdieing his last three holes, while Davis Thompson dropped out after a costly three-putt on 18.

🏌️‍♀️ Women's British Open: Miyu Yamashita Seals Historic Win in Wales

PORTCAWL, WALES — AUGUST 3, 2025
Japan’s Miyu Yamashita held off a strong Sunday challenge from Charley Hull to win the Women’s British Open, claiming her first major title with a bogey-free 2-under 70.

“It’s a dream come true. I stayed calm, focused, and trusted my game,” said Yamashita.

  • Hull cut the lead to one stroke after a birdie on the 14th, but back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 sealed her fate.

  • Yamashita held her nerve with crucial par saves on the back nine and finished two strokes ahead.

  • Hull and Minami Katsu tied for second after Hull’s closing 69.

🗒️ Fun Fact: Japanese players have now won 4 of the last 9 majors in women’s golf, including Mao Saigo's win at the 2025 Chevron Championship.
