The Guardian Releases Documentary on Palestinian Doctors in Israel Amid Gaza War

LONDON: The Guardian has released a powerful 22-minute documentary, “The Oath: To Be a Palestinian Doctor in Israel’s Healthcare System,” spotlighting the story of Dr. Lina Qasem-Hassan, a Palestinian physician working in Israel amid the Gaza war.

Dr. Qasem-Hassan highlights the systemic discrimination faced by Arab medical staff, despite Arabs comprising nearly 25% of Israeli doctors. Since Oct. 7, she says, anti-Palestinian sentiment has surged, with doctors facing persecution, complaints, and hostility.

The film also sheds light on the devastation in Gaza, where 1,581 health workers have died and only 18 of 36 hospitals remain partially functional, according to UN data.

As chair of Physicians for Human Rights — Israel, Qasem-Hassan treats both Israelis and Palestinians while publicly condemning injustice and risking backlash. Despite personal loss — including family members killed in airstrikes — she remains committed to her oath: “As long as we remain silent, our oath is hollow.
