Israel Risks Isolation, Warns German Foreign Minister During Visit

FRANKFURT / JERUSALEM:

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned on Thursday that Israel is in danger of becoming increasingly isolated on the global stage, stressing that Germany bears a responsibility to prevent that outcome.

Speaking during an official visit to Israel, Wadephul told reporters,

“Israel must always find friends, partners and supporters in the international community. And that is currently in danger in this situation.”

He emphasized Germany’s historical and political commitment to Israel, noting,

“If there is one country that has a responsibility to prevent this [isolation], then in my view it is Germany.”

Gaza's Humanitarian Crisis: "Beyond Imagination"

Wadephul also raised grave concerns about the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, calling the situation “beyond imagination.”

After holding meetings with senior Israeli officials in Jerusalem, the German foreign minister urged the Israeli government to do more to ease civilian suffering.

“(Israel is) obliged to quickly and safely send sufficient humanitarian and medical aid to avoid mass death as part of a famine,” he said.

His remarks come as international pressure mounts on Israel to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza amid widespread reports of food shortages, collapsing infrastructure, and a deteriorating health crisis.
